British Cycling secured renewed with Sky until 2016
The British Television and Communications firm and British Cycling have worked hand in hand since the past four years.
The two have now decided to extend their collaboration for four more years, it was announced earlier.
The partnership started back in 2008 and since then, the sport has received immense popularity across the country.
The new multi-million pound deal will run through 2016 and will definitely promote the sport for the next four years.
Chief Executive of British Cycling Ian Drake was overwhelmed after renewing the contract with Sky.
He noted, "I'm delighted that Sky has committed to working with us for a further four-year period”.
“The unique nature of our partnership with Sky has been a key factor in cycling's phenomenal success story, the growth of our sport over the past four years has been amazing".
Sky Chief Executive Jeremy Darroch shared the same thoughts as Drake, "We are proud of the partnership we have with British Cycling and look forward to four more years supporting the sport", he noted.
"Our aim has always been to increase participation, support the leading riders and inspire the next generation”.
“We know we are making a difference and getting people involved, right across the UK”.
Team Sky was launched only after one year of the first agreement between the two parties, and it gained the UCI World Tour status by 2010.
The team has dominated at the top level of the sport, with a balanced combination of overseas and local stars.
The British side aims to win the Tour de France and is well placed for the 2012 version of the race.
It is currently lying at the third overall position at the UCI Teams Rankings and has filled its bag with numerous victories in the first half of the 2012 season.
Sky has also supported British track cyclists including Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton.
It is backing the BMC and country’s MTB riders for the biggest event of the year, 2012 Olympic Games.
Sir Chris Hoy holds the honour of winning the Olympic Gold medal on four occasions and he acknowledges the endless contributions Sky has made towards the British Cycling.
