British Grand Prix 2010: Teams and Drivers Preview – Part II
Toro Rosso
Championship Position: 8
Points: 10
Scuderia Toro Rosso is one of the teams that are fighting for every race to finish in the points table. They have so far accumulated 10 points in the season with Canada being their best finish in P8. Sebastian Buemi is extremely satisfied with his performance in Montreal and vowed to put in the same effort this weekend. He has however insisted that to achieve a similar result, the team would have to improve in the qualifying session. He believes that if the team tries to qualify as close as possible to the top ten, then it has a chance of bringing home some valuable points. Jaime Alguersuari, who has so far managed only two point finishes, is looking to make improvements in the next race. He is appreciative of his teammate and is hoping to at least match the performances of Buemi. Alguersuari, like his teammate, believes that the Toro Rosso team needs to pick up pace in qualifying which will improve their chances of finishing higher than their rivals.
Williams
Championship Position: 7
Points: 20
Williams Cosworth is another team that will be coming to Silverstone with some upgrades. The team hopes that the upgrades will bring more race-pace and will place them where they should be. Williams are competing against the Force India team and Rubens Barrichello is hopeful of catching up. Barrichello said that the team will be able continue the momentum from Valencia. The Brazilian is happy that despite the changes to the track Becketts, Stowe and Club are still there on the circuit. Nico Hulkenberg believes that it is the track’s high speed first sector that will be the biggest challenge for the drivers and chassis. The changes that the team is introducing for the next race include an exhaust blown diffuser, rear brake duct and front suspension. It will be decided only after the Friday practice whether Williams is going ahead with the diffusers or not.
Force India
Championship Position: 6
Points: 43
Force India team have set their eyes on Renault in the Constructors’ Championship and their lead in Montreal suggests they have every reason to compete against Renault. The Force India camp recently experienced contrasting loyalties when Adrian Sutil mentioned that he wants to extend his contract while Vitantonio Liuzzi wants to drive for his favourite team McLaren. With all the simulation work on the circuit done, Sutil believes that the alterations to only a single section of the track will not cause problems. He is very confident of points finish and even higher due to changes in front wing and combination of new parts. Liuzzi is thrilled at the prospect of racing at the British GP 2010 which he thinks will suit the setup of the Force India car. According to the Italian, the new setup of the car will give them extra down force in those high speed corners at Silverstone. The installation of the new exhaust system will boost the chances for them to top within the top ten.
Renault
Championship Position: 5
Points: 89
Renault has done a lot of home work ever since receiving the layout of the altered Silverstone circuit three months ago. The team has made calculations about the upcoming race including lap times, racing lines, average speed, overtaking opportunities, aerodynamics and down force. The team recently announced that they have made improvements that will help them pose a serious challenge to Ferrari and McLaren in the upcoming races. Robert Kubica believes that Silverstone will be very challenging because there is a lot of difference between low speed and high speed corners and it is very crucial to achieve the balance. Kubica is hopeful that the changes made since the European GP will give Renault the edge over its rivals. Vitaly Petrov is looking forward to see the performance of the car after the installation of these upgrades and has said that it will be extremely important to get the maximum out of the car on such a challenging circuit with several straights and high speed corners.
