British Grand Prix: Button returns happy but not much
Jenson Button is happy but not much. This Sunday he had been able to finish the race at a clean fourth place but he tells after the race that he feels disappointed for not being able to have a podium position.
Button had been very enthusiastic as well as optimistic for the race firstly because this was the home round for the British driver and also because the McLaren came up with their upgraded car for the race at Silverstone and was expecting to see both drivers at podium.
The practice sessions had not been very promising for the young driver so he was only able to start the race at the 14th place on the grid but still he had been able to end among the top ten owing to the good start at the final race day. The defending F1 champion completed a long stint with his option tyre which let him come up to the fifth place and yet another place was gained as Fernando Alonso of Ferrari was penalised.
It was due to these reasons that the driver was able to stand firmly at his already occupied second place in the Drivers’ Standing and end this race at fourth place. But still he had been disappointed as he thought that he should have got ahead of Nico Rosberg to claim the podium place.
As the race ended Button talked to the reporters telling that the race had gone great and he was happy to have made up among the top ten places. While commenting about the circuit he told that it was really hard overtaking at this circuit therefore he had to pull through the start-line and move pass the others. He made up six places in the event but he told that he had to push really hard on the option tyre at the start of the race in order to achieve that. He further told that it was when Fernando went a drive-through for the penalty that he was able to pick up the fourth position.
He concluded that after disappointing Friday session it was great for the team to see its drivers pick up second and fourth. He added that he was happy for the team as it had been able to pack some good points. However, he added that due to the second place finish of his teammate, the difference between the two has increased from six points to twelve points, though they still stand at the first and second place of the Drivers’ Championship. But still he was determined that he would try to have the difference vanished in the next race with the stronger cars that they expect to have. The next grand Prix is scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Germany.
As the British Grand Prix ended the McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh expressed his joy at the fine finish of both the drivers telling that he had been very happy with the team’s finish, especially at Button’s performance for the way he bounced back from the rough start of the weekend at the practice sessions.
He was happy to tell that he thinks that Jenson drove masterly to make up ten places as it was not easy at all to have the race started from 14th place and had finished it at fourth. He said that he had been happy for the reason that the team strategy worked for him. In fact, he proclaimed that the team had been working very hard to have the drivers get this finish and now he thinks the efforts of the entire crew have returned fruitful.
For McLaren, though they had not been able to bag the first position in the race but still it was a good weekend and the team’s top position had been cemented even further. With their cars expected to undergo more upgrading in the next two weeks the team is hoping to see even better results at the German Grand Prix.
