British Grand Prix; Mark Webber Returns Jubilant From Silverstone

It was worth all the wait and anticipation. The 2010 British Grand Prix unfolded this Sunday in all its glory and charisma. The crowd had been joyous and jubilant as always and the spirits and fortitude of the drivers kept mounting till the final moment came and the green flag moved to begin the race. The teams, drivers, spectators and the reporters and analysts held their breaths as the cars shrieked and screeched on the Silverstone Track in all energy and vigour.

As hoped it was one of the most nail biting and nerve tingling races of the season. The Red Bull was able to prove its potential once again. It yelled and roared right in all other teams’ faces that it was the best team with the best cars and the best drivers. And then there was also the McLaren that growled in equal strength and intensity, stating that they stand second to none. Behind the Red Bull and McLaren it was Mercedes that was able to magnetize the gazes every now and then and last but not the least there was Williams, Sauber and Force India hat kept surprising all by their performance.

Mark Webber of Red bull took all off the hook once again! He was able to hold his supremacy in the race right from the start. He was unmovable from his top position on the track despite the hard push that Lewis Hamilton of McLarens made he was successful to keep clung to his top position. His teammate, Sebastian Vettel was not able to have a great start but after the safety car period he tried not to let go the chance to come back to the race momentum but still he was not able to secure any place better than seventh after starting from the first place on the grid. Webber who stood high on the podium started off the race from second position on the grid.

Lewis Hamilton, the angry young man of McLaren challenged Webber hugely on the first lap of the race, but it was soon evident that only some huge drama on the track could snatch the victory away from the Australian. He maintained a grace as he drove flawlessly right from the first minute of the race whereas Hamilton at the same time kept proving his mastery as a driver as he stanchly ended at second place.

Sebastian Vettel who was initially holding the third place had to hand it over to Robert Kubica of Renault, shortly as he made a pit stop to switch to hard tyres. The forth place  was initially being switched between Mercedes GP’s Nico Rosberg and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, but later the brush within the Ferrari team mates Felipe Massa and Alonso left the Brazilian to a frustrating end as he had to stop for fresh rubber tyres.

For Kubica the day was not very lucky as he had to retire owing to a driveshaft failure at the rear of the car, this gave Rosberg the opportunity to claim his podium slot. McLaren’s Jenson Button made a great start with a long first stint on the soft Bridgestone tyres and was able to stay within a second of Rosberg all the way.

On Lap 28 after Adrian Sutil hit Pedro de la Rosa’s BMW Sauber the safety-car period came up in order to clear the debris on the track, which went lucky for Vettel as he was able to make his way up the order.

It was not a very promising day for Mercedes’ Michael Schumacher who was hardly able to push to the ninth place grabbing two points only for the team, followed by Nico Hulkenberg of Williams. The Force India diver Vitantonio Liuzzi, tried to keep him at his chase, lap after lap but Hulkenberg was finally able to end ahead of him.

Sebastien Buemi for Ferrari and Vitaly Petrov for Renault were able to finish at twelfth and thirteenth place ahead of the two Ferrari men, for whom the day was a simply unlucky.

Timo Glock of Virgin ended at eighteenth place sandwiched between the four men of Lotus and HRT. The two Lotus drivers, Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen finished at sixteenth and seventeen places whereas the two HRT racers Karun Chandhok and Sakon Yamamoto ended at nineteenth and twentieth places respectively.

The long straights of Silverstone and its sharp turns served a rich racing spectacle at the finale race day. Overall it is the Red Bull and the McLaren that return from the track happy and jubilant as Hamilton’s efforts made the team stay firmly at top of the Constructors’ Charts and with Webber’s top finish Red Bull had been able to bag the fifth race win of the year.
