British Horse Racing Authority announces additional fixture due to bad weather
The British Horse Racing Authority (BHA) is trying to combat the bad weather conditions in the country, which have threatened to disrupt some events in the first week of February, 2012.
Freezing temperatures have kept the organisers guessing, but they have decided to take a precautionary decision, announcing an additional fixture at Kempton on Sunday, February 5.
A statement from BHA, which had the details of the additional fixture, read, “Due to the current spell of cold weather threatening racing on turf this coming weekend, the British Horseracing Authority, in conjunction with the Horserace Betting Levy
Board, has created an additional all-weather fixture to be run at Kempton on Sunday, February 5.”
On the other hand, there were also some concerns over a few events in Ireland, especially at Punchestown, which is scheduled to hold a race on Wednesday, February 1. However, things have started to get a little better and the races are likely to take
place as per the original programme.
Despite that, the organisers at Punchestown have kept the frost covers on as a precaution. According to the course manager, Richie Galway, “We decided to put down our frost covers as a precaution as we're expecting frost for the next three nights.
The current forecast is for milder weather over the weekend.”
Leicester, Newcastle, Ludlow, and Kempton are scheduled to host different races in the United Kingdom today. The latter two venues have no issues at all, as the weather forecast is sunny for the day.
Despite that, a precautionary inspection will be held at Ludlow, as the track was affected by freezing temperatures over the past couple of days. The organisers were confident that there will be no issues, and the event will be a success.
Other than that, inspections will also be done at the racecourses in Leicester and New Castle, where the frost had caused some damage. Both tracks were kept under covers, and the organisers will be hoping that the conditions remain good for racing.
On the other hand, the Irish races will be held at Down Royal today, where the track is absolutely perfect for racing. The weather forecast for today is also sunny, so there will be no issues at all.
