British Open 2012: Phil Mickelson misses major cut
One of the most prestigious golf tournaments, the British Championship Open is in its full swing. Two days have passed at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Course. The four-day event which started from the 19th of July is going to end on the 22nd
of July.
Players from all over the world are here to fight at this course for the oldest and most honourable trophy in golf, the Claret Jug.
After two days of golf, many players have been able to give exceptional performances. Some of them have been able to deliver while others have failed.
The list of players who have not been able to live up to their names also includes the American professional golfer, Phil Mickelson.
After two days of golf at the Lytham, Mickelson missed the cut. On both the days, he was not able to produce anything special. On the first day, he carded three birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey. His score after the first round was three-over par.
Mickelson had even a worse second round. On the back nine, he scored two double bogeys on the thirteenth and fourteenth hole. These made his score six-over par.
His back nine was the worst display of golf from Mickelson. He started off with a birdie on the twelfth hole. It was followed by two consecutive double bogeys, starting from the thirteenth. He also carded two bogeys on the fifteenth and eighteenth hole.
Mickelson’s score in the second round was eight-over par and his final score climbed up to eleven-over par. This was a very disappointing performance by the 42-year-old.
After missing the cut at the major, Mickelson gave an interview, in which he constantly repeated this statement, "I don't know what to say”.
He talked about what he is going to do from now on, he said, “I'm fine. I don't know what to say about my play”.
“I'll work with Butch this week and see if I can get some direction in my play and see if I can get myself into a better frame of mind heading into these next two months, because we've got some big tournaments coming up. I've got a lot work to do these next
10 days. It's just a little frustrating for me”.
