British Open: Anirban Lahiri’s Open debut
Once again, the best in the world of golf are going to gather to fight for the ultimate prize, the Claret Jug of the British Open Championship. This year, the venue for this prestigious event is the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in Lancashire, England.
The four days of world class golf start from the 19th of July and end on the 22nd of July.
A player who is going to make his Open debut is the Indian professional golfer Anirban Lahiri. Till now he has been able to bag four professional wins. Out of these four wins, two came from the Asian tour.
This truly will be an amazing chance for the 25-year-old to gain experience and to get fame. He himself has realised that this is an opportunity he must grasp and play his life’s best golf on Thursday against some of the biggest names in golf.
In an interview, regarding what this tournament means to him, he said, "Of the four Majors, the Open and the Masters are probably the hallowed events. Growing up, that's where you want to be - it's been a dream of mine. I'm really fortunate and privileged
that I will be a part of an event like this. It's an opportunity to move my game into the next level".
Lahiri is preparing for the biggest tournament of his life till now. He is practicing at the Lytham golf course to be ready and to know what to expect from the course.
After his visit to the course in June, he said, "I think it was good that I managed to go there early to get a feel for the course. It was a great experience and it sets me up for The Open. I played a couple of rounds and fortunately, the winds switched
which was good. It gave me a great look at how things might be".
Lahiri is ready for the upcoming challenge. Whatever maybe the outcome of the tournament, this is going to be a tough stage to perform on and there will be enormous amount of pressure.
Other players under the spot light for the tournament are the three-time Open Championship winner Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy who is looking to be back on the top again and David Duval who will be trying to repeat his win at the course.
