Hi, im 17, and I live in canada. I have 2 questions about british passports. First, i was born in canada, but my father was actually born in england, (he actually became a canadian citizen 2 weeks after my birth) My mother and him were married before my birth and she was born in canada/ Am i eligible for a british passport now, as he doesnt carry one (only canadian)

My second question is if I am able to get a british passport, would i still require a visa to work and live, not necessarily in England, but in France and Itlay as they are part of the EU, thanks very much for your help, it is appreciated.

  1. If your father was a UK citizen when he took Canadian citizenship, he is still a UK citizen because UK allows dual.  Just because he has not bothered to renew his UK passport doesn't mean that he's not a citizen anymore.

You are also a UK citizen by descent and can apply for your British passport if you send in copies of your and your dad's birth certificates.

    See http://ukincanada.fco.gov.uk/en/passport...

As a UK ciitzen, you do not need a work permit to work and live in any EU country.  The only requirement is you may stay up to 6 months looking for a job.  If you don't find a job they can kick you out.  If you find a job, you have to let them know that you are staying.
