An official of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) has revealed that Pakistan’s leg-spinner, Danish Kaneria, needed to show the transcript of investigation against him by the British police to the PCB’s integrity committee last week, which he failed to do so,
thus causing the integrity committee to not clear him for the World Cup squad.
The official said, “There’s no use of calling a lawyer because the board will not meet him [Kaneria] until he submits the transcript. The PCB cannot take a risk by clearing him because his refusal to submit the transcript makes things suspicious.”
Kaneria was investigated by the British Police for allegedly fixing a county match while he was playing county cricket in England. However, he was cleared from all charges during the investigation and no official trial was launched.
Earlier, the PCB had made it clear to the players that if they wanted to get their names cleared for the 30-member preliminary World Cup squad, they needed to present all the documents regarding their financial assets in front of the integrity committee.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) had shown its reservations over the role of certain Pakistani players in match-fixing and clearly instructed the PCB not to select the players before thoroughly checking their assets and other financial statements.
The PCB then immediately formulated an integrity committee which was tasked to look into the matter of clearance of the players. The players who were initially not cleared included former captain and middle order batsman, Shoaib Malik, wicketkeeper, Kamran
Akmal, leg-spinner, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 and Rana Neved-ul-Hasan.
Last week, the players met the member of the integrity committee in a bid to clear their names, however, the integrity committee cleared only Kamran Akmal and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan for the 30-member preliminary squad for next month’s World Cup because, according
to the board, only Akmal and Rana Naved managed to give full details of their assets, while Shoaib Malik and Danish Kaneria failed to satisfy the board.
After this, Kaneria threatened to sue the board because he claimed that the board kept him out of the World Cup squad without giving any valid reason.
But according to a PCB official, “It is clear and simple: Akmal provided all the sought documents and details while the other two (Malik and Kaneria) failed.”
