The Deltic railway locomotive holds an obscure world record. Though long since withdrawn from service, it's record has never been broken, to date. What is the specific record held by the Deltic?

  1. Hauled the fastest East coast main line service London to Edinburgh until its displacement by the HST


  2. 'Deltic' locomotive was used in regular service for nearly 30 years, mostly along the East Coast line between London Kings Cross and Scotland.

    Deltic Engines also hauled the fastest trains in Britain at their top operating speed of 100mph and remained in service until being displaced by the High Speed Train in the late 1970s.

    Truly remarkable engines !!!

    I'd also imagine "Most engine changes" or "Most oil used" would also be high up in the rankings.

    Developed for marine applications Deltic engines were used to power the US Navy PTF Nasty boats that were involved at the beginning of the Vietnam War. The design was also used for the New York Fire Brigades Superpumper, the worlds most powerful land based fire extinguisher!
