Does anyone know how to get out of my contract with bt as its useless and to expensive for what you get eg broadband speed I live 1.7 km from the exchange and my max speed is 3meg they told me 8 now they say it my line wireing ha they put it in .So I took all phones and extensions off my line and connected directly to bt box if I get any closer I will have to surf at the top of telegragh pole outside and still know faster.

any ideas anyone or are there any companys that will take over my line.

cheers

  1. In theory you are on an 8 meg connection but get a 3 meg                       connection.

if you was on a 24 meg connection you would get 19meg

(YOU LOOSE 5 MEG OVER 2 MILES )

You could try be unlimited they will take your line over from bt they change you 30 quid but no more bt ever

  2. regardless of who you go with you will be using the same copper to the property so that wont change if thats causing a problem and in most cases it will also use the same exchange equipment so again this wont improve it.

it is very unlikely they gaurenteed youll get 8meg most likey they stated its up to as they are trained to make clear (this isnt the same as saying you will get 8meg) very few places even in some cases those next to an exchange get a full 8meg due to the loss of the cables from impedence, when it comes to speed its always up to as cable length as this can vary and cable type etc, also just because you live 1.7km from the exchange doesnt mean your cables run that way, i know a place 1km from the exhange but because of geography, housing and other factors they have a 12km cable run!

as for the internal cable if it was installed by BT it only has a years gaurentee, so if its within its year call them and tell them and make sure you have an order number to challenge them, but after this its your responsibility, try disconnecting it at the main socket (unscrew the lower part of the front plate and you find the test point) and see if this effects the speed. though to be honest all you can do is hold on till the next round of adsl 2+ upgrades kick in that start upgrading the exchanges to kick out 24meg

  3. you could sign up to th company talk talk

, they will sort most of the business with bt out for you to come to an arangement where bt will supply the line , so you pay £10.50 (line rental)

and they will offer you a deal best suited to you, i think there is also a recent promotion where they give free broadband with a £6.50 call plan
