British Women’s Water Polo team determined to put up a strong show – FINA World League 2011
The British Women’s Water Polo team is very confident to put on a good show and give their best performance in the 2011 FINA World League starting on May 13 in Barcelona.
Most pivotally, they will have to face the toughest teams in Barcelona, including Hungry, Greece and Spain.
The FINA World League is considered one of the most pivotal events in Water Polo after the World Championships and Olympic Games.
Most importantly, it will provide an excellent opportunity to British Women’s Water Polo team to get more world-class experience before the London Olympic Games in 2012.
Recently, they have faced a tough time against Spaniard Women’s Water Polo team in the European qualification round at Manchester Aquatics Centre. That is why they are looking very determined and self motivated to give their best performance in the World
League this week.
Meanwhile, the British Women’s Water Polo team captain, Fran Leighton said that they are going to take part in the most challenging and intriguing water polo matches against their archrivals right now.
“Obviously we gained lots of confidence when we played Spain the other week so it will be a case of putting everything that we learnt into practice, but we respect the abilities of these teams and we know we won’t get anything easily,” said Leighton.
She clearly mentioned that there they cannot even make a minor mistake against the best teams in the World League and will have to focus on their best performance in Barcelona.
2010 went really good for the British Women’s Water Polo team who recorded famous victories over strong teams like Germany and Italy in their preliminary rounds. However, they failed to book a place to the Super Final.
The second round of the preliminary stage will be held in Athens from May 20 – 22, 2011.
The top two women’s water polo teams will book their places for the FINA World League Super Final 2011 which will be held in Tianjin, China from June 14 – 19, 2011.
After that, the top two teams will compete with the top six teams from the United States of America and Asia Oceania in the super eight round-up which will decide the solo winner.
The British Women’s Water Polo team will face Greece in their first match this Friday in Barcelona.
