British accent, or...................?

I am an American, but I have many British relatives, thus I have an almost perfect Liverpool accent. (My Liverpool is considered "fake" because I was not raised in Liverpool) I do it quite often, but then, when I switch back to my natural American accent, it feels really weird and out of place. I don't really know how to describe it. It is like the British accent is my natural, and the American is the one I am faking. But I don't even feel like I'm faking the Liverpool, I feel like I'm faking the American. I even use all the British slang and what not, even in my American accent, which sometimes sounds really funny! So here is my question, is this weird? I use the Liverpool accent so often, and people ask me where I'm from, so I tell them Arizona, and they don't believe me. But My Liverpool accent feels more natural to me, and I feel like I have to force the American so I rarely ever do it. Am I a complete twit, or am I making a bit of sense to you? Which accent should I stick with?

Talk however you feel comfortable. Although tbh I doubt you have an almost perfect scouse accent, if you went to Liverpool everyone would be able to tell you weren't a scouser as you will have a twang of American which you and the people you talk to in America probably can't hear in your own voice but Liverpudlians and other British people would.

If people ask about your accent just say you're from Arizona but have relatives in Liverpool which is why you have a different accent. Just talk however you feel comfortable, its natural you'll have a similiar accent to your relatives.

SCOUSER...Lol, i find the couser accent a little annoying at times but it's hilarious! Stick you whatever come OUT naturally, if you think about it, it's going to sound fake so don't.

Well I would like to hear your accent, because many people try to imitate scouse and I know only one outsider who has nailed it perfectly (Lenny Henry)

Imitation accents can be spotted right away by locals, and I would guess you cause quite a lot of confusion using scouse in The U.S. and saying you are from Arizona! Is this deliberate?

The reason why there is so few questions on Liverpool Answers is because we are all far to busy enjoying our year as the European Capital of Culture.

Im born and bred from Liverpool . but moved over to Ireland a few yrs ago and have never lost my accent i say the odd few things with an Irish tinge , and when im home visiting my accent comes back even stronger , if your happy with your liverpool accent then stick with it . but a true scouser will spot it straight away. best bet be yourself and not try be be someone your not.
