  1. The main advantage of American English is that back about 200 years ago or so when Noah Webster published his dictionary, he tried to regularize some of the spelling.

    American -- British

    regularize -- regularise

    program -- programme

    And so on.

Other than that I couldn't really say that either language has an advantage. The Standard American accent is not actually the most commonly spoken American accent (which is quite similar to the standard British accent being far from the most commonly spoken British accent).

  2. say, American English is "rhotic", hence easier for the foreigners to learn to speak than British (standard) accent.
