British athlete a source of inspiration for me, reveals Manoj Tiwary - Cricket News Update
India’s young talented batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890, has disclosed that he drew inspiration from a British athlete, Derek Redmond, who set an example by not quitting the race despite his injury.
He described that he was searching for a motivational video on YouTube, when he suddenly came across with Redmond's clip of the 400-meter semi-final of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
Tiwary smashed a wonderful 104-run-innings and helped his side notch a comprehensive victory in the final One Day International (ODI) against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. He was struggling with his fitness badly, but the young man kept on playing and scored his maiden ton
before retiring hurt.
Talking about his splendid knock, Tiwary stated the video clip worked as a source of inspiration for him when he was cramping up during his stay at the crease.
"I was searching for motivational videos on YouTube when I glanced through Redmond's clip. That was the 400m semi-final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Redmond tore his hamstring at the midway and hopped his way to the finishing point as crowd gave
him a standing ovation. That clip was an inspiration when I was cramping up with more than 20 runs to get to my ton," Tiwary told
PTI in an interview.
Since his international debut in February 2008, the 26-year-old had been in and out of the crew due to his below-average performances. However, it seems that by hitting a superb innings, the Bengal-born player has secured his place in the squad for the 50-over
format of the game.
The batsman admitted that he was under pressure to score a big innings in order to save his place in the side. With the presence of a few young guns such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539, Tiwary was supposed to play a big one, and an impressive
knock came at the right time for the classy right-hander who has played in six one-dayers so far.
"We have three guys Rohit (Sharma), Virat (Kohli) and Suresh (Raina) playing well consistently. So to be in the reckoning, I needed a special knock," he shared referring to his maiden ODI ton against the Windies at Chennai on Sunday night.
