British boxer and former world champion Ricky Hatton’s boxing license revoked
The former world champion and British veteran boxer Ricky Hatton is suffering seriously these days. According to reports, the thirty one year old has found his boxing license revoked and now faces legal action
for bringing the sport into disrepute.
Hatton has been in the news recently for a variety of reasons. Primarily though, his face has been plastered across tabloid’s because of his drug and alcohol fuelled binges. Hatton has been out of the ring for quite a while now
and it seemed as if Hatton was busy trying to cope with some mental issues with regard to the sport.
However, any attempts by Hatton to return to the sport for the time being seem to be put on hold as the relevant boxing authorities decided to revoke his license for bringing disrepute to the sport.
Hatton has already admitted to the fact that he was not feeling fit and that he was suffering from depression. The images of Hatton using cocaine and drinking alcohol printed by a newspaper were vivid proof of Hatton's depleting mental and physical health.
Hatton has not fought since 2009 after being knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in the second round in Las Vegas. Undoubtedly fans of Hatton will be immensely disappointed with the turn Hatton’s life has taken, despite the fact that Hatton still seems in love with
the game as he has been promoting young boxers all over Britain.
After the story (and the photographs) of Hatton’s alcohol and drug abuse broke in the News of the World, the British Boxing Board of Control called a hearing about the matter and issued their judgment on Thursday. According to the report, Hatton has been fined
£20,000 by the board along with the cancellation of his manager’s license. However, Hatton is still allowed to participate in the promotional activities of the boxing circuit.
The board stated that Ricky Hatton is allowed to promote boxing and he’s also allowed to train young talent. They argued that Hatton’s contributions to the promotion of the sport and his ability to work with and motivate youth meant that he couldn’t be fully
dissociated from the sport.
Despite Hatton’s world falling around him, recently Hatton, in an interview, seemed enthused about promoting boxing and helping train young talent. Though he may not possess the will or the ability to compete professionally again,
Hatton seems enthusiastic enough in helping the sport spread and excel, while helping young boxers sharpen their techniques. Ricky Hatton fans throughout the world may never see Hatton in the ring again – at least not in a competitive match – but they should
at the least be happy to note that Hatton is still considerably involved in the sport that he, and they, love; boxing.
