  1. UK army and navy tags have 5 lines containing the following information

    1) blood type

    2) serial number

    3) family name

    4) first and second initial

    5) religion (this one may be left blank)

RAF dog tags have the same as the army and navy but with "RAF" stamped on them as a sixth line.

The UK does not have a Marine Corps. British marines are combined into the other services. They also don't have an army air corp.

  2. Garbage! The UK does have a "marines corps" - they're called the Royal Marines and they're part of the Royal Navy, just like the US Marines Corps were originally part of the US Navy.  And we do have an Army Air Corps... They're called, funnily enough, the Army Air Corps.

Dogtags are disc shaped in the UK.  There is a metal lanyard which holds the thing like a necklace.  Attached to that is a second smaller lanyard with a second disc.  The second disc is attached to the outside of the body bag for easy identification.  The first one remains on the corpse.

They are made for the armed forces and engraved at the factory so I don't think you would be able to get any that are not already made up for someone else.  They are normally stowed in the haversack for the S10 respirator, so if you can find one of those in an army surplus store, you may well find the dogtags are still in there.

Unlike in the US, they are only worn by a) sad cases and b) in time of war.

The information printed on them is correct as above.

  3. My husband is ex RAF and hes told me that on his was:

    Name

    D.O.B

    Rank

    Service number

    Blood type

    Religion

  4. I know you could use to get them in army stores other than that, only a soldier would have them.

  5. Proper forces dog tags are made from a metal which does not melt, for obvious reasons.

The info on them is...Number, rank, name, initials, blood group.

  6. service number

    surname

    initials

    DOB

    blood group

    religion

there's no RAF on (not any more anyway)

  7. well, there are two of em

one i believe has the soldiers name, rank and id number on one

(which if th soldier is found dead, the that tag is tied to the dead soldeirs foot, whereas the second tag

has the name, dob, blood type, any medically needed info, which is taken by whichever soldier finds the body (as proof, so as not to start a search party in enemy territory)

it cud be the other way round, an they take the first one, but everyfin else is correct!

  8. You should be able to find blank ones in Army and Navy stores. If you're looking for genuine ones, someone's probably selling them on eBay.

For info, Navy one's are discs and I believe Army have round ended rectangles. I don't know what shape the RAF gets.

Info is Blood group, Number, Surname, Initials and religion in that order top to bottom.

  9. We never used dogtags,we had ID cards, the RAF had 1250 ID cards. The American forces use the dog tag.

  10. Quickest way is join up and then you get a free pair.

  11. Your service number

    Your religion

    Your blood group.

    Identification tags are also fireproof.
