British government reveals London Olympic Games 2012 will remain within budget
The government of Great Britain has recently made the announcement that the London 2012 Olympic Games set to start from July 27, 2012 will come under budget. The amount of £9.3 billion was told to the taxpayers to be the costs of staging the Olympic Games
in England for the third time but the estimates now reveal that the final cost would be significantly under.
The government still has a total of £476 million left out of the total contingency money it had put aside for the Games.
However, it has also been intimidated that the extra cash available will be spent on controlling the huge number of people that will b e thronging the streets of London when the Olympic Games finally arrive. The number of people on the streets is expected
to be great three days before the Games start as that would be the time when the Olympic torch would arrive in central London.
Hugh Robertson, the sports and Olympics minister, expressed his views by making the following comments on the matter, “There is a certain amount of this that you assess as the thing develops and these costs emerge. As a government, you're caught here. The
first responsibility of a government is the safety and security of its people. We have to do everything we can reasonably do to ensure the safety and security of the very many people, judging by the jubilee, who will attend. There is an element of managing
success here.”
The crowd control measures that have to be taken by taking into account the expected increase in the number of people on the streets calls for an additional £19 million to be added into the budget for crowd control. As a result, the total money that would
be spent on crowd control measures is expected to fall around £76 million.
The bulk of the Olympic budget has been spent on renovating the Olympic Park, which was previously a contaminated former industrial site. The area covering the Olympic Park consists of 2.5 square kilometres and involved a total of 46,000 workers in order
to get the job done.
