British gymnasts end seventh at World Gymnastics 2010
At their first World Gymnastics team final, the British male Gymnasts team has managed to make it to the seventh position. Despite of a few faltering performances on the floor and the rings they had eventually made it to the final which has improved their
overall international ranking well ahead of London Olympics 2012.
With Louis Smith performing quite impressively on the pommel horse and scoring 15.800 points, the total score for Briton athletes rose to 261.103 which help them finish above the Korean counter parts that stood eighth in the competition. As it was quite
obvious, China grabbed the title by scoring 274.997 points while Japan ended second with 273.769 points. Germany bagged third position in the event with 271.252 points as its athletes operated in a different league against their five rivals and finished quite
remarkably as compared to the other participating nations.
Germany who happens to be the European gymnastics champion depicted some of marvellous performances, particularly Fabian Hambuechen proved to be impressive for the spectators as well as for the judges. At a point Japan too seemed outperforming the traditional
rivals from China, however, the exceptional score bagged by the Chinese gymnasts proved the difference.
For Britain’s men’s team, this was for the first time to make it to the final of the event. They had qualified at the fourth position a week ago while depicting a better performance from the Russian and German gymnasts. Though the British team did not give
equally well performance during the finals as they did while they had to qualify, nevertheless the results and achievements had been unprecedented for them.
Making a comparison of the performance of the British gymnasts in last year’s world championships they had ended at 15th position. The Olympics bronze medallist and member of the British team Louis Smith told the media correspondents that last year his team
made some of the major errors, however, this time they had worked hard and had succeeded in qualifying for the final in fourth position. He said that his team had showed to the world about how good they were.
He further said that the team GB was definitely on rise and they were constantly improving their performance. It was just like if the team was climbing the Mount Everest and the hardships they had to face during the trainings had started paying them off.
He was of the view that it was nice to show the world about what was going on back at home, he expressed the hope that by the time London Olympics would arrive, they would be able to depict much better performance.
Just like last year, this year too there had been many points noted down by the team GB’s coach to be worked upon in the gym. For instance, Dan Purvis while beginning the performance of his team made a nervy start on the pommel horse. Moreover, both Kristian
Thomas and Ruslan Panteleymonov failed to go beyond 14.333 points. Theo Seager’s performance was worst in the team as he ended with only 13.266 points.
After “not so well” performances of the middle order gymnasts, the responsibility to depict the finish was laid down on the shoulders of Daniel Purvis to perform on the floor. Purvis did the job rather well and rounded off GB’s score with 14.850 individual
points. Sharing his views about ending his team performance with comparatively better points, Purvis said that it was quite an impressive show which helped them to qualify as a team, and for him getting anywhere on marks table was a bonus.
He further said that after the “prior final” performance they had an outside medal chance, however they eventually made a few mistakes which hindered them scoring well on the board. Expressing about the performance of his team he said that the event had
been pretty positive for them and their performance has boosted up their confidence to do well in the coming events.
