British gymnasts get a chance at London Olympics 2012
The Olympic test event for the men’s gymnastics is about to commence shortly. The venue for the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifying test event is the O2 Arena.
The test event is going to last till the January 18 and will feature both men’s as well as women’s gymnastics teams.
The test event is giving four of the best men’s as well as the women’s gymnastics teams a chance to qualify for the Olympic Games this time around. The British men’s gymnastics team already had a chance to enter the Olympic Games but they could not qualify
for the international sporting event. The test event that is going to start from Tuesday will provide them with another opportunity to make it to the 2012 Games that are going to take place on their national soil.
The British gymnast, Louis Smith, who won a bronze medal in the Beijing Games made the following comments about the performance of the British men’s gymnasts, “The reality is, what's done is done. We'd like to have qualified and had Christmas and New Year's
to relax with. But as I've said before, what's one Christmas and New Year's for an Olympic Games? We've got a whole lifetime of Christmases and New Year's to come and this Olympics only comes around once.”
The test event is not only going to bring the top five men’s and women’s gymnastics teams into the Olympics, it will also be an opportunity to get the best of five individual rhythmic gymnasts into the Games. In addition to this, the top four rhythmic groups
along with the best five men’s as well as women’s trampoline will also get an opportunity to make it into the Olympic Games.
It would be the third time in the history of the capital of England that the Olympic Games would be hosted on its soil. After the international sporting event is welcomed in London, the city will become the first one in the world to have staged the event
thrice. London was able to secure the bid after having competing with cities such as the New York City as well as Madrid way back in the year 2005.
