British mixed doubles pairs surge into quarter-finals of All England Open – Badminton News
The British mixed doubles pairs Chris Adcock-Imogen Bankier and Nathan Robertson-Jenny Wallwork raised England’s hopes by surging into the quarter-finals of All England Open on March 8, 2012.
The World Number 17 duo Adcock-Bankier defeated the Korean pair Yoo Yeon Seong-Jang Ye Na while the other mixed doubles couple Nathan Robertson-Jenny Wallwork paved their path to the quarter-finals by overpowering the World Number five duo Chen Hung Ling-Cheng
Wen Hsing of Chinese Taipei.
The World Championships’ silver medallists Adcock-Bankier had a perfect start in the event when they stunned World Number one Chinese pair Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei but they had to stretch hard in next encounter as they were subjected into tough test by their
Korean rivals.
The British pair reserved their right to be in the top eight by sealing the victory with final score 15-21, 21-19 and 21-19 on the board but ecstatic Adcock was not fully satisfied with their performance.
He said, “I would give us two out of 10 for the performance. We did not reach the heights as we did against the number one seeds. We were lacking in all departments in the first game but the crowd lifted us to see us through this difficult match."
Meanwhile, the other British duo Nathan Robertson-Jenny Wallwork also joined the party with their impressive knock against the Taipei couple Chen Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing.
They trod into quarter-finals by sealing the straight-set victory over Taipei opponents with score board flashing final figures of 21-13 and 21-13.
The male partner of Commonwealth runners-up couple, Nathan Robertson was over the moon and proud of their first victory over the World Number five duo Chen Hung Ling-Cheng Wen Hsing.
Robertson said, "We were at our top level there. We haven't beaten them before."
Both British mixed doubles teams are in a tight selection contest for London Olympics and they will be striving hard to pocket maximum ranking points to make into top 16 pairs of the World.
The World Number 17 British couple Adcock-Bankier is now scheduled to lock horns with relatively low ranked Malaysian couple Peng Soon-Liu Ying while their compatriots Robertson- Wallwork will be looking to surpass the World Number four Indonesian duo Tontowi
Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir to grasp the best in All England Open.
