British mixed doubles star Nathan Robertson aims for a spot in London Olympics 2012
The British mixed doubles badminton player Nathan Robertson hopes to play his vital role in London Olympics 2012 just like the way he showed his premium class in the European Men’s Team Badminton Championships.
However, his spot in the London Olympics is not confirmed yet, Robertson gets through with his partner Jenny Wallwork only if they have a better world ranking than their rival couple Chris Adcock and Imogen Bankier.
The British shuttler Robertson said, “It is pretty much a shoot-out between us and the other GB pair. There are about six or seven tournaments left and one or two rounds different in points. It is very close.”
Nathan Robertson registered his class in European Men’s Team Badminton Championships even though he just got two chances, one against Slovenia in a group match and other against Russia in third position match.
In rest of the other matches, either he was dropped or the English team sealed the victory even before his game. The England finished the event with third position after beating Russia.
The British shuttler Nathan Robertson with his partner Chris Langridge ensured the England’s third spot in the European Men’s Team Badminton Championships by beating their Russian rival duo Vitalij Durkin and Alexandr Nikolaenko with final score of 19-21,
21-14 and 21-10.
The British singles players Rajiv Ouseph and Carl Baxter had clinched the first two match points already.
The British veteran shuttler Nathan Robertson bagged a silver medal in the Mixed Doubles category with his partner Gail Emms in last Olympics at Beijing.
Now the 34-year-old Robertson is hoping to repeat his performance in the London Olympics 2012, before he bids farewell to badminton arena.
However, only one British mixed doubles pair, with the higher world ranking, will represent the country in the mega event.
The British mixed doubles pair Robertson-Wallwork is currently placed 18 in the world rankings and the other World Number 14 British couple Chris Adcock-Imogen Bankier has slight edge over these two.
This nerve-racking tussle had put so much pressure on the couples that the female players of both parties got in a superfluous word war on twitter and had to make ceasefire later.
