British passport need visa for Australia?

Hi, travelling to Oz end of year. I have a British pasport, but will not be travelling to Oz from the UK, but from Yemen (where I work). Here the British Embassy act on behalf for Australia. I phoned them and they said that I dont need a visa as a tourist, but get a stamp upon arrival. For some reason, I want more confirmation. Any ideas on this, anyone? Please let me know...

You just need to state your purpose for the visit on the entrance form which you fill in on the plane.

As a tourist....

You will be allowed to stay for a maximum of 90 days.

What is it? Why do you need an ETA?

An ETA is an Electronic Travel Authority required for entry to Australia. An ETA is essentially a paper-free visa that is not stamped or added into a passport. The ETA is verified electronically when checking-in by the participating airline and then by Australian immigration officials upon arrival.

Passport holders from the following European countries are eligible for an ETA: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Vatican City and UK Citizens (and British Nationals overseas).

You are having British passport and I think you don't need any visa for Australia.

You want a stranger's word over the embassies?

Are you actually British? Does it say "British Citizen" inside your passport or British Overseas Citizen, British National (Overseas) (in other words Hong Kong citizens), British Subject, British Territories Citizen or British Protected Person.

British citizens are allowed to stay in Australia for 90 days without need for a visa. But they can apply for a Electronic Travel Authority if they wish. You can do this online depending on your nationality.
