how do you smell "molt" or "molting"

because i've seen people spell it like this

1. molt

2. moult

3. molting

4. moulting

which is right? or do you use both

molt is never used

Not a word I use much (;-)) but if I did, I'd spell it with the U in it. My dictionary has both versions in it, with a note that the U spelling is mainly a British variation. Makes sense, cos I'm a Brit!

I've never seen it spelt "molt" in any context

My Puppy moults alot we SAY -Moult but we DON'T usually write it down.
