  1. No, but it would sound ridiculous and if you persisted in using a British accent you would eventually alienate people

  4. depends whether they were trying or whether it was natural ... I've met a few Americans who've lived here a long time and their accent is an amusing combination of both, but I don't find it offensive because it's natural and they're not putting it on ... it's only when people are trying to imitate a British accent that I find it offensive

Generally, an American talking in a fake British accent sounds fake.  They sound like a fool, and some people will take offense, perceiving it as a mockery.  If you mean using British terminology in an American accent, there's a fine line.  Using too many British terms will make you sound pompous, but sometimes you have to use a British term as opposed to a very American term, to help with understanding.

  6. no, i just laugh, because anytime an American attempts any sort of British accent, they sound ridiculous, and it's so funny.
