British police to launch investigation against News of the World!
In what could be termed as the hottest news in the recent imbroglio that has caught the international media by storm, British police has decided to hold investigations against the British tabloid who is responsible for leaking the entire spot-fixing controversy that has led to a suspension of three Pakistani cricketers.
It is noteworthy to mention here that the News of the World has been involved in a number of scandal’s including privacy infringement that involved hacking into the royal phone. That led to an ugly scandal with the News of the World correspondent sent to jail and the then editor Andy Coulson resigning. Their news gathering techniques have often had to face severe criticism since they involve entrapment and other contentious campaigns.
The News of the World has scandalized a lot of celebrities and sportsmen and in many cases in the past that have resulted in its management paying for damages for publishing false reports. Their “Anti-Paedophile” campaign which was started by the newspaper to name and shame alleged paedophiles, led to angry mobs attacking people who were later proven to be innocent.
News of the World is renowned for its sensational news, and they do have a tendency at times of spicing things up. However, The Guardian in 2009 made a series of allegations that the phone hacking antics of the News of the World went far beyond ethical standards for which the royal correspondent of the Newspaper was jailed. The Guardian alleged that the phone hacking scam included land lines of public figures such as Politician John Prescott, Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson, public relations guru Max Clifford and many others.
A committee in the House of Commons is holding an inquiry into the incident reported. "We strongly condemn this behaviour which reinforces the widely held impression that the press generally regard themselves as unaccountable and that News International in particular has sought to conceal the truth about what really occurred." The News International being the subsidiary owning the News of the World.
The News of the World has been responsible for publishing reports against the Pakistani cricket players’ for their involvement in spot-fixing. The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard has been investigating these claims by the NOTW. As a result of this, the ICC has slapped the three players alleged to be involved in spot-fixing with suspension charges. They will not be able to play cricket pending a decision from the Scotland Yard.
