British shuttlers set for All England Open to boost their hopes in London Olympics
Top British shuttlers will be trying to give their Olympic hopes a boost as they are all set for the All England Open, going to be staged in Birmingham from March 6, 2012.
So far, England has just two confirm spots, in men’s singles and mixed doubles events, in London Olympics and the All England Open has become even more crucial as it is going to be the last premier event before the Olympic qualification period comes to an
end in May.
The British mixed doubles pair Chris Adcock- Imogen Bankier and men’s singles shuttler Rajiv Ouseph have earned their spot in the mega event but still they will be striving to pocket few more world ranking points as other British shuttlers are also going
to sweat hard to unseat them.
The British mixed doubles pair Bankier-Adcock is in tight selection tussle with the World Number 18 duo Jenny Wallwork- Nathan Robertson, as they are placed just four steps higher than their rivals in world rankings.
The both pairs will be in quest for world ranking points to cement their spot in the London Olympics. The British mixed doubles female expert Bankier tagged the All England Open a test case for both pairs.
Bankier said, “We get to train against each other and we're bringing each other on all the time. It's a testament to how good they are that we've improved and likewise the rivalry keeps us both on our toes.”
On the other hand, the duo Robertson- Wallwork alarmed their rivals Bankier-Adcock by nailing them in their first meeting in Malaysia few months back.
The veteran British shuttler Nathan Robertson intends to bid farewell to badminton arena in style after the London Olympics and he is ready to put all he got to win a spot in the mega event.
He said, “We're in a straight shoot-out with the other GB pair for the spot. It's really tight.”
The All England draw has doubled the trouble for Bankier-Adcock as they need to surpass the World Number one Chinese duo Zhao Yunlei- Zhang Nan in the opening match while Robertson- Wallwork are facing a weak Thai duo.
The only British men’s singles hope in Olympics Rajiv Ouseph has been subjected to a tough trial against the Danish maestro Peter Hoeg Gade.
The All England Open is also throwing a chance to British women’s singles shuttlers Scot Susan Egelstaff and Elizabeth Cann to show their class while the male English champion duo Chris Adcock- Andrew Ellis also will be sweating hard to boost their hopes
for the London Olympics.
