Briton No.1, Elena Baltacha, sets her sights on 2012 Olympics and is working hard to stay amongst top 56 to qualify for this tournament. Even if she falls short of top 56 ranking, she can still have an outer chance to make it through
a wildcard entry. Currently she is at World No.50 and working extremely hard on practice courts to make sure that she retains her direct qualification.
28-year-old, Baltacha, is pumped up for her aim to qualify for next year Olympics and while talking to the media representatives, she said, “You know what? I'm so excited by the Olympics. It's my dream to make the cut. I know I'll
probably have to be about 65 to get entry and that's my goal for next year, to achieve that.”
Top 56 players in the women ATP ranking will directly qualify for the Olympics and tournament officials will decide the six wildcard entries that will follow the top 56 at the elitist tennis arenas in London.
Ipswich born Briton also explained her desire for meeting top players and prestigious stages and playing in front of her local crowd. She added “I think it will be amazing to be part of it, to meet the other athletes and see how
they work. It's going to be such a great learning curve."
This year has been one of the best years of her career and she herself declared that statement to the media. She is looking to put a lot more effort in the upcoming years to break into the top 10 rankings and represent her country
at all elite platforms. She reached the second round of French Open for the first time in her career and talking about her concerns about playing on clay-courts, she said, “I’ve never taken the clay seriously enough and I've always tried to avoid it because
I was never brought up on the clay.”
She is definitely considering taking clay seriously and has started practicing on that surface to make sure she doesn’t face any sort of problems while contesting in tournaments played on clay-courts. She has pledged to improve
her game and add few more shots to her compact game play that will delight her fans and help her climb up few ranks. She was really ecstatic to win first round at Paris and proclaimed that she never thought she could pass it but she is happy that she did.
Elena Baltacha is improving and will definitely hit the headlines soon with her accomplishments next year but at the moment her main priority is to qualify for Olympics 2012 and is practicing extra hours to live her dream.
