  1. Proud of course.

  2. Proud. Of course there are aspects that are a bit shameful, but in the main I think we have created a harmonious Commonwealth of nations.

  3. If you are ashamed of 'colonisation' per se then one might be ashamed of British history.

However if you were to compare colonial powers Britain was relatively progressive. Many British colonies are now stable democracies; Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, etc.

  4. indifferent.  some parts you can be proud of and others  ashamed of.

since several empires have emerged and fallen over the decades such as Roman empire .Asian hordes etc we at least have left some lasting  well thought of attributes.

our current political climate and  population changes mean however that our image as a 'slaving' nation will be taught and promoted with the balance  of facts and  past history and other nations also trading slaves ignored. This means our history will become  shown to be a bit like the n**i's and we will have all the good bit's painted out. for a current vista of whats in store look at Zimbabwe where they are taught we were a nasty ruling aggressive force of evil who enslaved the nation and robbed it of it's wealth and  are til keeping it poor. facts  easily check-able but hey.who really cares for after 2040 when  the white population will become the minority by about 5 million ( minimum estimation) and we in turn become the oppressed people in our own country. if you think it won't happen go look up other countries where the indigenous population was out bred etc.

  5. I'm am proud to be one of the the antecedents of the biggest ars- kickers in the world bar none . without any apolerges to the PC brigade or the bleeding hearts

  6. Very proud. Our former colonies are almost all doing very well. I think we gave a lot to a great many countries and we created some of the most powerful and stable economies on the planet (USA CANADA AUSTRALIA NEW ZEALAND ETC). Without the contribution of the colonists these places would not exist and I do get annoyed when they try to deny their origins. Too often the British beat themselves up for our Colonial past but the people left at home in Britain were in a great many cases far worse off and more poorly treated than the locals in our colonies.

  7. I'm indifferent. You can't choose who your parents are, so there's no reason to be proud/ashamed of your country's past.

Also, I am not my ancestors. 'Guilt by association' is a logical fallacy. I think it's pathetic how people are still apologising for the slave trade because the apologists were never slave traders. They have nothing to apologise for!

  8. Indifferent. The only plus is that everyone speaks English which works for us but I think we should try to speak other languages too. The only minus is that some people don't like us, which is gonna happen anyway.

  9. I know you didn't ask Americans so I hope you don't mind. All Americans with any sense of history.Which might not be most of us anymore. Are proud and thankful for our British past.Imperialism was the way of the world in Empire days. The Brits left a much better legacy then other Imperialists.Aside from the previous countries mentioned look at the difference between Haiti and Bermuda or The Bahamas. The facts speak for themselves.

  10. While my fellow countrymen were out making a nuisance of themselves around the globe, my ancestors were working in their fields or their kitchens.

I'm proud of my own achievements and ashamed of my own failures.  I'm not that bothered about the achievements and failures of people who happened to live in my country before I was born.  And no, I'm not going to apologise for knocking down Stonehenge.

  11. the policy of "divide and rule" worked well for britishers.

dicipline was the main key for british success.

a lot of atrocities were committed against natives.slave trade is another aspect.

but britishers gave a system, language, dicipline, showed a way to all.

even the last colony honkong was so wealthy.

comparing with spaniards, portuguese, belgians british were excellent.

    but one more point.

specially in india and sri lanka and south east asia they perpetuated the caste divisions.

still the fellows are killing each other.

secret behind their success is that they never mixed religion with administration.many times the missionaries were chased and their baggage and bible thrown into sea.

i know all britishers are ashamed at some point.they have apologised.due to this they tolerate bad behaviour of former colony subjects.

i like london a lot without stabbings
