I'm from Hampton and I was visiting Birmingham last week and at least three brums thought I was from S. Africa.

I've lived here all my life!

My family is from Kent and around the River Thames area.

How is this possible?

  2. People from Birmingham speak with a horrible speech impediment.  They are easily confused with nice accents.

Clearly, the appropriate thing to do is not visit Birmingham.  Quite why it is considered the second city is just very strange to me.  I wouldn't live there if you bought me a house there, even if it was in the nice bit (I believe they do have a nice bit somewhere, but it is still full of Brummies).
