Britta MacLean captures Women's 800m freestyle gold: Day three – 2011 Canada Cup, Toronto
Britta MacLean of ESWIM captured the title of Women's 800m freestyle on third day of the 2011 Canada Cup in Toronto, on Sunday, November 27.
The 17-year-old MacLean demonstrated her fabulous effort in the final of 800m event by submitting a time of 8 minutes and 39.39 seconds for gold medal. Her gold winning effort remained almost 2 seconds beneath the Canada Cup mark of 8 minutes and 41.83 seconds, made by Tanya Hunks of UBC Dolphins in 2007.
The gold medallist was trailed by Tabith Baumann of Go Kingfish, who remained 6.01 seconds behind on the finishing end. The 16-year-old Baumann followed her former finisher on the medal rostrum by posting a fantastic effort of 8 minutes and 45.40 seconds. With her astounding effort, she remained 0.70 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Lucy Charles of GBR, who appeared on the finishing wall as the third fastest finisher.
The 18-year-old Charles completed her swim in a nice time of 8 minutes and 46.10 seconds for bronze medal. The fourth spot of the race was secured by Bridget Colay of HAC, who remained 6.19 seconds slower than her former finisher and emerged on the finishing wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 52.29 seconds.
Meanwhile, Heath Maitland of TSC appeared on the finishing end for the fourth finest spot of the swim. The 22-year-old Maitland remained 4.06 seconds away from her former finisher and settled on the finishing wall as fifth best swimmer by clocking a time of 8 minutes and 56.35 seconds.
She was followed by Nadin Williams of STSC, who remained nearly 4 seconds away from the fifth position holder and hit the concluding wall with the timing of 9 minutes and 00.26 seconds.
The 18-year-old Williams was chased by Zsofi Balazs of TSC, who ended her swim in a time of 9 minutes and 01.85 seconds for seventh position. Similarly, Sherry Liu of HYACK obtained eight fastest spot of the swim with a timing of 9 minutes and 03.06 seconds.
Furthermore, the arena admired wonderful efforts of all swimmers while the winners received their medals after the session.
