Britta Steffen captures Women’s 50m freestyle gold: Day seven – European LC Championships
Britta Steffen of Germany captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day seven of the European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Sunday, May 27.
With her commendable efforts, Steffen sustained her fastest qualification spot of the race and outsmarted her opponents in a comfortable manner for gold medal of the discipline.
Her epic pace and perfect start placed her considerably ahead of her competitors throughout the single lap freestyle discipline and she reached the finishing end with the timing of 24.37 seconds.
The champion was followed by Hinkelien Schreuder of Netherlands, who stayed 0.41 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 24.78 seconds.
Similarly, Schreuder enjoyed an advantage of 0.15 over her following swimmer, Nery-Mantey Niangkouara of Greece, who secured bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 24.93 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Triin Aljand of Estonia, who stayed 0.08 seconds apart and secured fourth position of the discipline by reporting a time of 25.01 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Theodora Drakou of Greece, who stayed 0.04 seconds slower and clocked a time of 25.05 seconds.
Similarly, Drakou was chased by Sviatlana Khakhlova of Bulgaria, who remained only 0.07 seconds behind and reached the finishing blockade for sixth position by posting a time of 25.12 seconds.
Khakhlova was chased by Anna Santamans of France, who was just one stroke slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with the timing of 25.26 seconds.
Following that, the arena witnessed gruelling efforts of Sarah Blake Bateman, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to overpower her preceding swimmer over the finishing end.
Bateman stayed just 0.12 seconds slower from Santamans and obtained eighth position of the discipline by finishing her swim in a time of 25.38 seconds.
The session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner while the position holders received awards and accolades for their notable efforts in the 50m discipline at the medal distribution ceremony of the tournament.
