Britta Steffen captures Women’s 50m freestyle title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Britta Steffen of Germany captured gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on day one of the last stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Saturday, November 10.
The Germany swimmer spoiled the party of her opponents by dominating the playoff of the two-lap freestyle discipline. Steffen enjoyed a comfortable lead over her opponents in the race and reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
She remained in a prominent lead over her opponents and surfaced on the finishing end for the crown by producing an effort of 24.10 seconds.
Steffen was chased by Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who was 0.49 seconds slower and proved her eligibility for second position of the race by producing a time of 24.59 seconds.
Ottesen Gray was trailed by Jessica Hardy of USA, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing blockade for third position by producing an effort of 24.77 seconds.
Hardy was traced by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who was 0.08 seconds slower from overpowering her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 24.85 seconds for fourth position.
Fifth best spot of the event was obtained by Angie Bainbridge of Australia, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and concluded her race in a time of 25.16 seconds.
Subsequently, sixth position of the event was obtained by Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who suffered a loss of only 0.02 seconds from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 25.18 seconds for sixth position.
Seppala was followed by Ngawati Kotuku of Australia, who was 0.10 seconds slower and ended her race in a time of 25.28 seconds for seventh position.
Kotuku was traced by Melanie Schlanger of Australia, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to do so. Schlanger remained 0.12 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end with a timing of 25.40 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Steffen was contented with her title claiming effort and articulated that she would continue her hard work to excel in the same event in future.
