Britta Steffen earns Women’s 100m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Berlin
Britta Steffen of Germany earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, October 21.
The German swimmer met expectations of her supporters in the four-lap freestyle discipline as she overpowered her opponents over the finishing end for gold medal.
Her quickest response to the start placed her marginally ahead of her opponents and she earned her way to the wall for gold medal.
With her impeccable efforts, she remained marginally ahead of her opponents and captured gold medal of the event by posting a time of 52.88 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jessica Hardy of USA, who remained 0.12 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the wall as second position holder with an effort of 53.00 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Jessica Morrison of Australia, who stayed 0.31 seconds apart and occupied bronze medal by producing a time of 53.31 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Charlotte Bonnet of France, who stayed half body length behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 53.86 seconds.
Subsequently, Bonnet remained 0.21 seconds ahead of Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who finished fifth in the race by submitting a time of 54.07 seconds.
Sixth best spot of the swim was secured by Tatiana Lima of Brazil, who stayed 0.57 seconds apart and made her way to the finishing blockade by reporting a time of 54.64 seconds.
Lima enjoyed an advantage of 0.29 seconds over Kylie Stewart of USA, who tried hard to overwhelm her former finisher but failed to do so. She remained marginally slower from her over the wall and secured seventh position with a timing of 54.93 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Pernille Blume of Denmark, who stayed 0.05 seconds behind and hit the wall with an effort of 54.98 seconds.
In addition, Steffen was overjoyed with her gold claiming effort and stated that she would accelerate her training program and try to achieve the same at the upcoming World Short Course Championships, this December.
