Britta Steffen impresses in Women’s 50m freestyle semi-finals: Day six – European LC Championships
Britta Steffen of Germany impressed in the semi-finals of Women’s 50m freestyle on day six of the ongoing European Long Course Championships in Debrecen, Hungary on Saturday, May 26.
The 28-year-old Steffen astonished the audience with her elevated efforts in the second round of the single lap discipline. She dictated terms to her supporters and qualified into the final as top contender for gold medal.
Her alluring pace placed her prominently ahead of her supporters and she made her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 24.56 seconds.
Steffen was chased by Hinkelien Schreuder of Netherlands, who also stayed 0.25 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing blockade as second fastest finisher with an effort of 24.81 seconds.
Similarly, Schreuder remained 0.28 seconds ahead of Nery-Mantey Niangkouara of Greece, who snared third fastest qualification spot of the discipline by producing a time of 25.09 seconds.
Fourth position of the single lap discipline was obtained by Triin Aljand of Estonia, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 25.12 seconds.
Aljand was followed by Anna Santamans of France, who was 0.08 seconds apart and tapped the finishing end for fifth position by submitting an effort of 25.20 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position holder was traced by Theodora Drakou of Greece, who stayed 0.01 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall for sixth position with the timing of 25.21 seconds.
Drakou was chased by Sviatlana Khakhlova of Bulgaria, who was 0.05 seconds away from her and hit the finishing blockade with the timing of 25.26 seconds for seventh position.
Last spot of the race was secured by Daniela Schreiber of Germany, who stayed 0.12 seconds slower from overwhelming her foregoing finisher. With her exhausting efforts, Schreiber qualified as the eights position holder of the discipline as she tapped the wall with an effort of 25.38 seconds.
Furthermore, the session came to an end after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner while these finalists will contend each other for the top spot on the podium in the playoff.
