Britta Steffen secures Women’s 100m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Britta Steffen of Germany secured gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day two of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Sunday, October 14.
The German swimmer stifled hopes of her rivals in the 100m discipline as she went on a rampage and occupied gold medal of the event.
With her impeccable pace, she enjoyed a comfortable lead over her toughest competitor and sprinted her way towards the wall for gold medal. She enjoyed a lead of full body length over her following swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for the title
by producing a time of 52.46 seconds.
The gold medallist was chased by Jessica Hardy of USA, who was 0.92 seconds behind and secured silver medal of the race by clocking a time of 53.38 seconds.
Hardy was traced by Jessica Morrison of Australia, who stayed 0.20 seconds behind and ended her swim in third best place by submitting a time of 53.58 seconds.
The third fastest swimmer was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who was just one arm-stroke away from upsetting her foregoing finisher but settled on the end as fourth position holder by reporting an effort of 53.87 seconds.
Subsequently, Coleman was trailed by Tatiana Lima of Brazil, who suffered a loss of 0.73 seconds from her preceding swimmer and touched the wall with a timing of 54.60 seconds for fifth place.
Lima enjoyed a benefit of just 0.06 seconds over Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who proved her eligibility for sixth best place by hitting the wall with an effort 54.66 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was secured by Louise Hansson of Sweden, who was only 0.07 seconds slower from her former swimmer and ended her race in a time of 54.73 seconds.
Last spot of the event was gained by Maud van der Meer of Netherlands, who was only 0.13 seconds apart and hit the finishing end with an effort of 54.86 seconds.
In addition, Steffen received a huge round of applause from the arena for her commendable form and stressed that she would try hard to continue the same in futures.
