Britta Steffen seizes Women’s 100m freestyle gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Britta Steffen of Germany seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, October 3.
Steffen remained considerably ahead of her opponents in the four-lap freestyle discipline and made her way to the finishing end for the crown of the race.
The German swimmer stayed full body length ahead of her toughest challenger and made her way to the top of medal rostrum by touching the wall with a timing of 53.39 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who stayed 0.61 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and surfaced on the finishing end by clocking an effort of 54.00 seconds.
Coleman was trailed by Hang Yu Sze of Hong Kong, who stayed 0.48 seconds apart and sprinted her way towards the finishing end for bronze medal by clocking a time of 54.48 seconds.
Fourth best spot of the race was obtained by Iris Brand of Netherlands, who stayed almost three seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and transpired on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 57.29 seconds.
Brand was traced by Lynette Hiang Yuet Ng of Singapore, who suffered a loss of 0.30 seconds from her preceding swimmer and reported an effort of 57.59 seconds.
Subsequently, sixth position of the swim was obtained by Gwen van Beek, who was 1.16 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 58.75 seconds.
Beek enjoyed an advantage of Rachel Marjorie Tseng of Singapore, who was 0.26 seconds apart and completed her swim in seventh best place by producing a time of 59.01 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Moriah Simonds of USA, who failed to upset any of her competitors and finished last in the event. She remained full body length away from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade by producing
a time of 1 minute and 00.04 seconds.
In addition, Steffen was contented with her gold finish in the race and said that she would try hard to continue the same in future.
