Britta Steffen seizes Women’s 100m freestyle title – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
Britta Steffen of Germany seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Doha, Qatar on Sunday, October 7.
Steffen demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the 100m discipline and overpowered her competitors over the finishing wall for the title.
Steffen faced strong contest from her closest swimmer throughout the race but managed to prove her mettle for the title. Steffen stayed just a touch ahead of her following rival and snared gold medal of the event by producing a nice time of 53.40 seconds.
The German swimmer was followed by Michelle Coleman of Sweden, who remained 0.20 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end for silver medal by reporting a time of 53.60 seconds.
Coleman was trailed by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who stayed 0.65 seconds apart and stepped on the finishing blockade for bronze medal by producing a time of 54.25 seconds.
Fourth spot of the race was obtained by Hang Yu Sze of Hong Kong, who stayed 0.83 seconds behind and surfaced on the finishing end by submitting an effort of 55.08 seconds.
Subsequently, Sze remained one and a half body length ahead of Lynette Ng of Singapore, who ended her race in fifth place by clocking an effort of 57.46 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Rachel Tseng of Singapore, who stayed almost two body lengths apart and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall by clocking a time of 59.41 seconds.
Tseng was chased by Alethea Toh of Singapore, who stayed 0.48 seconds slower from overpowering her preceding swimmer and made her way to the finishing wall for seventh position by producing a timing of 59.89 seconds.
Toh was followed by Sara Abdlrahman Al Flaij, who remained considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and completed her race in eighth place by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 11.65 seconds.
In addition, Steffen was overjoyed with her gold finish in the tournament and said that she would continue her hard work to accomplish the same at forthcoming swimming events.
