Britta Steffen seizes Women’s 100m freestyle title – FINA Swimming World Cup, Singapore
Britta Steffen of Germany seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day two of the final stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Singapore, Asia on Sunday, November 11.
The German swimmer showed no mercy to her opponents in the four-lap discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
She continued her notable efforts throughout the race and transpired on the finishing end for the title with an effort of 52.38 seconds.
The champion remained full body length ahead of her closest competitor, Angie Bainbridge of Australia, who surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 53.26 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who stayed 0.36 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for bronze medal by producing a time of 53.62 seconds.
Subsequently, Ottesen was followed by Hanna-Maria Seppala of Finland, who stayed almost full body length behind and clocked an effort of 54.53 seconds for fourth position.
Seppala was chased by Ngawati Kotuku of Australia, who tried hard to improve her position but failed to do so. Kotuku remained 0.05 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and transpired on the finishing end for fifth position by posting a time of 54.58
seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Kelly Stubbins of Australia, who was 0.07 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 54.65 seconds.
Stubbins was traced by Amanda Xiang Qi Lim of Singapore, who was nearly 0.80 seconds slower from her foregoing swimmer and emerged on the finishing by clocking a time of 55.43 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Sophie Allen of Great Britain, who struggled hard to edge out her closest swimmer over the finishing end but was unable to achieve so. Allen remained 0.87 seconds slower from Lim and hit the finishing wall with an effort
of 56.30 seconds.
In addition, Steffen was contented with her gold finish in the 100m race and collected awards and accolades after the race.
