Britta Steffen seizes Women’s 50m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Britta Steffen of Germany seized gold medal of the Women’s 50m freestyle on first day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday, October 17.
The German star became the centre of attention of the audience with her unrelenting efforts in the shortest freestyle discipline. With her impressive start and powerful strokes, Steffen gained a slight lead over her opponents and paved her way towards the
finishing wall for gold medal.
Her splendid form placed her one arm-stroke ahead of her closest competitor as she tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 24.20 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jessica Hardy of USA, who stayed 0.32 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal with a timing of 24.52 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Svetlana Knyaginina of Russia, who was 0.24 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and emerged on the finishing end for bronze medal with an effort of 24.76 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Inge Dekker of Netherlands, who was only 0.02 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall by producing an effort of 24.78 seconds.
Similarly, Dekker was trailed by Anastasia Aksenova of Russia, who remained 0.26 seconds behind and completed her race in fifth best place by touching the wall with the timing of 25.04 seconds.
Sixth spot of the event was obtained by Natalia Lovtcova of Russia, who suffered a deficit of 0.20 seconds from her former finisher and posted a time of 25.24 seconds.
Lovtcova was traced by Maria Reznikova of Russia, who was 0.02 seconds away from her former finisher and touched the wall with a timing of 25.26 seconds.
Eighth position of the event was obtained by Elizaveta Bazarova of Russia, who was 0.41 seconds away from overpowering her former finisher and clocked an effort of 25.67 seconds.
In addition, Steffen received massive admiration from the crowd for her gruelling efforts and said that she would keep working hard in order to accomplish the same at upcoming swimming events.
