Britta Steffen wins Women’s 100m freestyle-2011 German World Championships Selection Trial
It was a day to remember for SG Neukolln e.V. Berlin’s Britta Steffen as she convincingly won the Women’s 100m freestyle final on day five of the 2011 German World Championships Selection Trial.
With her splendid victory, Britta has earned a spot in the German swimming team taking part at the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
Steffen won the gold medal in 50m freestyle and 100m freestyle events at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. She also defended her titles of the freestyle events at the 2009 Rome World Championships, where she demonstrated her fantastic swimming skills, by earning
the top podium finish.
The German swimming star captured the gold medal of the 100m event, by clocking a time of 54.14 seconds. She was 0.60 seconds faster than SV Halle’s Daniela Schreiber, who occupied the silver medal, posting a time of 54.74 seconds. SG Essen’s Lisa Vitting
followed them on the podium, by securing the bronze finish, with timing of 55.19 seconds.
Currently, Steffen holds the World, European and German records of the 100m freestyle event, clocking an irresistible time of 52.07 seconds at the 2009 Rome World Championships.
She seemed confident for the gold medal from the start of the race, and completed her first lap in 25.94 seconds, staying 0.20 seconds away from Daniela and Lisa. Her closest swimmers, Daniela and Vitting, completed their first laps, with a same time of
26.14 seconds.
Britta also displayed the most powerful swim in the second lap, occupying the gold medal with a time of 54.14 seconds. Moments later, the arena witnessed an amazing effort of Daniela, who out-touched Lisa with a difference of 0.45 seconds.
Vitting remained 0.21 seconds faster than her strongest rival, Silke Lippok, who completed her swim in the fourth fastest place, posting a time of 55.40 seconds.
The arena applauded for the outstanding efforts of their national swimmers, while the national champion expressed that she is working hard for the upcoming World Championships and will try to defend her titles in Shanghai, this July.
