Britta Steffen wins Women’s 100m freestyle gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
Britta Steffen of Germany won gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on day two of the seventh stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, November 7.
Steffen continued her unravelling efforts in the 100m discipline and proved her mettle for the title. She showed no leniency to her opponents in the freestyle discipline and ensured her place on top of the medal rostrum.
Steffen devastated hopes of her competitors in the 100m discipline and transpired on the finishing end for gold medal with a timing of 52.42 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jeanette Ottesen Gray of Denmark, who stayed 1.07 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end as second position holder by reporting a time of 53.49 seconds.
Similarly, Ottesen Gray was traced by Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who was 0.10 seconds apart and tapped the wall for third position by producing an effort of 53.59 seconds.
Ngawati was followed by Melanie Schlanger of Australia, who stayed 0.27 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer by producing an effort of 53.86 seconds.
Schlanger was chased by Kelly Stubbins of Australia, who stayed only a stroke behind and clocked a time of 54.17 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, sixth fastest spot of the race was surfaced by Maho Takiguchi of Japan, who stayed only a half body length slower from her foregoing finisher and surfaced on the wall with the timing of 54.63 seconds.
Seventh best position of the race was obtained by Miki Uchida of Japan, who remained only 0.08 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing wall for seventh position with a timing of 54.71 seconds.
Uchida was chased by Yanan Zheng of China, who stayed nearly full body length slower from her former finisher and failed to upset any of her challengers. Zheng was 0.94 seconds away from Uchida and tapped the wall with a timing of 55.65 seconds.
In addition, Steffen was overjoyed with her notable effort and stressed that she would try hard to achieve the same in forthcoming events.
