Britta Steffen wins Women’s 100m freestyle title – 2012 FINA Swimming World Cup, Moscow
Britta Steffen of Germany won gold medal of the Women’s 100m freestyle on second day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Moscow, Russia on Thursday, October 18.
The German swimmer demonstrated her astonishing efforts in the 100m discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
Steffen faced tough competition from her opponents in the first half, but with her continuous efforts in the second half, she proved her mettle for gold medal. She stayed more than half a body length ahead of her opponents and touched the wall for gold medal with a nice timing of 52.92 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Jessica Hardy of USA, who was 0.82 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing wall as second best finisher with the timing of 53.74 seconds.
The silver medallist was chased by Natalia Lovtcova of Russia, who was almost 0.70 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and secured bronze medal with an effort of 54.47 seconds.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Tatiana Lima of Brazil, who was 0.24 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end with the timing of 54.71 seconds.
Lima was chased by Anastasia Aksenova of Russia, who was just a stroke apart and emerged on the wall as fifth best finisher with an effort of 55.05 seconds.
Aksenova was trailed by Vitalina Simonova of Russia, who stayed only 0.44 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 55.49 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Jun Jun Guo of China, who suffered a loss of 0.07 seconds from her foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 55.56 seconds.
Last spot of the event was obtained by Kira Volodina of Russia, who was unable to show any improvement in her timing. Volodina stayed 0.19 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 55.75 seconds.
In addition, Steffen expressed contentment over her nerve-wrecking form in the freestyle discipline and stated her desire of accomplishing the same at upcoming international swimming events.
