Brittany Elmslie pockets Women’s 50m butterfly gold – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Brittany Elmslie of Nudgee Brothers pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 50m butterfly on third day of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Friday, September 14.
Elmslie demonstrated her ruthless efforts in the shortest butterfly swim, as she showed her urgency towards the finishing end for gold medal. She gained a comfortable lead over her opponents in the start and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With her unrelenting efforts, Elmslie stayed one stroke ahead of her toughest competitor and hit the wall with a fantastic effort of 26.63 seconds for the crown of the event.
The champion was followed by Lucia Lassman of Chandler, QLD, who remained 0.25 seconds slower from her former finisher and stepped on the victory stand for gold medal by submitting a wonderful time of 26.88 seconds.
Lassman was chased by Chris Licciardi of Melbourne VIC, who remained 0.13 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 27.01 seconds.
Licciardi was followed by Vanes Puhlmann of Chandler, QLD, who suffered a loss of 0.07 seconds and ended her race in fourth best place by submitting a time of 27.08 seconds.
Following that, the crowd witnessed immense competition between Louis Mitchell of Firbank Aquastar and Nicole Mee of Cranbrook for fifth best place of the event.
Both swimmers demonstrated their breath-taking efforts but failed to escape each other over the finishing end. They stayed just 0.02 seconds away from overpowering their preceding swimmer and surfaced on the finishing blockade as fifth position holders with an identical effort of 27.10 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Emily Nicol of North-West, who was 0.11 seconds apart and clocked a time of 27.21 seconds.
Nicol was followed by Jemma Schlicht of Surrey Park, VIC, who was 0.15 seconds slower and finished eighth in the event with the timing of 27.36 seconds.
In addition, Elmslie was extremely pleased with her performance in the 50m discipline and stated her desire of achieving the same at upcoming international swimming events.
