Brittany Elmslie wins Women’s 100m freestyle gold – Swimming news
Elmslie Brittany of Australia won gold medal in Women’s 100m freestyle on the opening day of the 2013 CA TYR Fran Crippen Memorial in Mission Viejo Nadadores, California on Friday, June 7.
The 18-year-old devastated the hopes of her opponents in the 100m discipline as she sprinted her way towards the finishing end for gold medal.
With her notable pace, she enjoyed a lead of 0.80 seconds over her toughest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for the title with an effort of 54.71 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Emily Seebohm of Australia, who was almost a body length apart and concluded her race in second place by producing an effort of 55.57 seconds.
The second best finisher was chased by Elizabeth Pelton of CAL-PC, who was 0.22 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with an effort of 55.79 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Kotuku Ngawati of Australia, who was half a body length slower from her former finisher and concluded her race in a time of 56.24 seconds.
Fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Rachael Acker of Unattached-PC, who was only 0.04 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 56.28 seconds.
The 19-year-old Acker was traced by Kasey Carlson of Trojan-CA, who was 0.35 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and rushed her way towards the finishing wall for sixth place by clocking a time of 56.63 seconds.
Subsequently, Carlson was trailed by Jemma Schlicht of Australia, who was 0.33 seconds apart and clocked an effort of 59.96 seconds for seventh place.
Schlicht was followed by Katie McLaughlin of Mission Viejo-CA, who tried hard to overpower her former finisher but failed to do so. McLaughlin remained 0.14 seconds slower from her preceding finisher and hit the wall with an effort
of 57.10 seconds.
In addition, Elmslie received a huge round of applause from the audience for her commendable form in the race while the position holders received medals and accolades collected medals after the race.
