Brittany Kimmitt wins Women’s 200m breaststroke gold: Day one – 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational
Brittany Kimmitt of University of Wisconsin won gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on foremost day of the 2012 Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational in Nebraska on Friday, June 8.
The 23-year-old Kimmitt demonstrated her astonishing skills in the distant breaststroke discipline and smothered hopes of her challengers, who were eyeing the title of the discipline.
She faced strong contest from Gisselle Kohoyda of University of Loughborough throughout the four-lap discipline but succeeded in edging her out over the finishing blockade for the crown of the event.
With her epic pace, Kimmitt reached the wall for gold medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 31.45 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.06 seconds ahead of Kohoyda, who followed her on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 31.51 seconds.
Similarly, third fastest spot of the race was secured by Kimmitt’s teammate, Ashley Wanland, who remained nearly two body lengths apart and tapped the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 33.30 seconds.
The bronze medallist was followed by Savannah Butler of IFLY-IA, who stayed almost four seconds apart and produced a time of 2 minutes and 37.68 seconds for fourth position of the event.
Butler was chased by Karolina Wartalowicz of Club Hawkeye-IA, who remained only 0.09 seconds apart and tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 37.77 seconds for fifth position.
The 20-year-old Wartalowicz remained nearly one and a half body length ahead of Londyn Clawson of Una UVRA-UT, who tapped the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 39.30 seconds for sixth position.
Last position of the playoff was obtained by Danielle Herrmann of Kansas Aquatics, who was 0.73 seconds apart and ended her race in seventh best place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 40.03 seconds while Tucson Ford Deal’s Amanda Beard was disqualified
from the final round due to the false start.
In addition, with the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the Omaha Swimvitational meet is of considerable importance as it also serves as the Olympic Selection Trials.
