Brittany Lang: Winner of Manulife Financial LPGA Classic
Brittany Lang won the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in a dramatic fashion. The game drew out to a four way playoff in which Lang faced Inbee Park, Chella Choi and Hee Kyung Seo.
This win marks the first major LPGA title for Brittany Lang. She played brilliantly and scored 268 points. She missed her chance of a stroke win on the 18th hole. She missed the hole, driving the two foot drive to the left of the hole.
This set up a playoff between the four players. This time Lang did not hesitate. Facing Hee Kyung Seo, the South Korean, she putted a perfect six footer on the third hole.
This got her the one stroke victory, she so justly deserved. It was a great moment for Brittany Lang, who started playing golf at nine years of age.
She hails from Texas, USA and turned pro in 2005. She was invited to play in LPGA events in 2006, where she performed moderately well.
The tournament has not been easy for Lang. She appeared under pressure throughout the event. She spent too much time analysing her putts and then missed them by a thin margin. The playoff was particularly a challenge.
Lang expressed her nervousness about the playoff. Her hands were shaking so much that every putt was an effort. She commented, “I gathered myself and it was really good experience to have that playoff go on”.
The win is also important for her career as well. It gives her a much coveted first win. Given the fact that she has been a runner-up for the last six events on the tour, this win is especially dear to her heart.
Hee Kyung Seo, one of the four players in the playoff is not satisfied with her performance. She said, “I tried my best. I made good shots up there but the hole was in a really tough position. I just didn’t get good breaks”.
The playoff that decided the outcome is another thing important for Lang. She said, "And it was a really good experience for me to have that playoff go on that long because it was just good to be in the hunt and in the thick of things and it was a good practice
for me".
Lang is ecstatic over the win. She has been around for six years and this is her first title. The win came after a long period of struggle on her part.
Brittany Lang turned pro after a brilliant amateur career. She has won American Junior Golf Association events eight times.
Add to that, her excellent performance at 2005 U.S. Women's Open, where she tied for second place, and one can predict her career fairly easily.
