Brittany Lang ready to atone for Canadian Open 2012 lapses in Virginia next month
American Brittany Lang, who finished tied for 35th at the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, is all set to take on rivals at the upcoming Kingsmill Championship 2012, set to be staged from September 6-9, at Williamsburg, Kingsmill Resort, River Course, Virginia.
According to the officials of Kingsmill Championship 2012, Lang confirmed her commitment for the tournament several days ago, whereas the field is yet to be completed.
Lang is desperately seeking to record her second victory on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour. Having made a solid start in the 2012 season, which has seen the American star grab her first pro title at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic, Lang is set to atone for her past lapses.
She participated in the last event of the season — CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012, at the Vancouver Golf Club, where she sought to impress the Canadian fans by showing her real skills on the course. However, she could not do her best and finished tied for 35th along with five other contenders.
She kicked off the Canadian Open in impressive style as she shot a decent 71 in the opening round. Commentators said that a one-under 71 is a good score to start with. However, the LPGA titan could not hold her ground in the third round as she posted an unimpressive 76.
Determined to prove her mettle in Virginia next month, Lang will have to face several battle-hardened contenders in the roster.
According to the latest development, world number two Stacy Lewis has confirmed her commitment to take part in the upcoming battle. Moreover, the field will also feature Juli Inkster, Morgan Pressel, Michelle Wie and Natalie Gulbis.
Analysts said that the LPGA tournament is likely to turn into a tough battle as Asian, especially South Korean golfers appear to be in high spirits these days as they have recorded victories in most of the recent tournaments.
Defending champion Cristie Kerr is also gearing up to repeat her 2009 performance. The Kingsmill Championship had to be suspended for two years — from 2010-2011. It was last played in 2009 under the name of Michelob Ultra Open, at Kingsmill.
Another past winner of the tournament, Se Ri Pak of South Korea, is also in the roster. Pak won the title in 2004.
