Brittany Lang still relishes runner-up finish at 2011 Ricoh Women's British Open
American Brittany Lang, who came close to winning the 2011 Ricoh Women’s British Open, can atone for the past lapses when she comes face-to-face against rivals at the 2012 edition of the prestigious tournament, set to start from September 13-16, at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Wirral, United Kingdom.
Lang displayed a superb performance in the last edition of the British Open, held at Carnoustie Golf Links as she finished runner-up after losing the event to current world number one Yani Tseng by four strokes.
The American star is seeking to win another event this season. Her first victory came just a few weeks ago when she beat her three nearest rivals in playoff at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012.
The roster at the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 is not easy as there will be top-ranked contenders putting their skills to the test.
Key contenders confirmed to take part in the major battle include Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Suzann Pettersen, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie, Shanshan Feng, Karrie Webb, Melissa Reid, Scottish Catriona Matthew, Laura Davies, Ji Yai Shin, Na Yeon Choi and Ai Miyazato of Japan.
Despite a strong field, Lang appears to be in high spirits and will try to do her best to clinch her second LPGA victory.
Defending champion Tseng is happy to see her name in the roster as she is being regarded as the hot favourite for the prestigious title. Tseng will try to end her brief victory drought that has been taking a serious toll on her performance, but she has not been able to overcome her nerves. She missed the cut in some of the recent events, which reflects that facing rivals at the Ricoh Women’s British Open will be an uphill task for the top-ranked prodigy.
Lang took part in the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 with plenty of enthusiasm, but could not prove her mettle as she shot an overall score of 289 to finish tied for the 35th position on the leaderboard.
Matthew, who boasts vast experience with the field and course, can prove be a tough contender at Wirral. The Scottish star won the major title in the 2009 edition of the tournament.
