Brittany Lang ties for 8th position at Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012
American Brittany Lang’s hope of recording her second straight victory in the season dashed when she tumbled to the eighth position in the final round of the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship 2012.
Lang, who has been performing well in the current season, was standing tied for the fourth position at the end of the second round, but faltered on the concluding day, slipping to the eighth spot.
The American star got off to a sloppy start, as she posted an unimpressive 73 in the opening round. She looked confidence, but when it came to facing pressure on the course, she appeared to lose her momentum.
Lang was regarded as one of the most favourite contenders for the coveted title, as she won the last event of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, Manulife Financial LPGA Classic 2012.
The rising star displayed a stellar performance at the Manulife LPGA Championship, as she outrivaled top-ranked LPGA stars like Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen.
Although the field at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship was more fearsome than that of Manulife Classic, Lang was not expected to walk away without putting up a tough fight.
Still, the LPGA prodigy finished inside the top 10 — something at odds with predictions from her critics.
Lang displayed a phenomenal performance in the second round, which helped her solidify her position on the leaderboard. With a near-flawless 63 on the second day, she jumped to the fourth position.
However, registering a 70 in the third round took a toll on her overall score, and she finally dropped to tie-8 position on the leaderboard.
Lang spoke to the media at the end of the second round, saying her first-round performance proved to be unlucky for her, and she could have made a big score.
“I didn't get off to a very good start bogeying hole 1. I actually think it was good, it kind of fired me up. I wasn't very happy after that and I immediately birdied 11,” the American golfer shred.” And
then, you know, from there -- the first 19 holes of the tournament I really didn't play my game -- I started really hitting at the middle of the green, not going at too many pins and finally started to make some putts”.
